I’M ABBIE MAE,
By trade I am a licensed massage therapist, perinatal doula, and lomilomi practitioner.
MAT- 16889
My path into bodywork began through a complicated relationship with my own body. At six years old, I was diagnosed with stage two kidney cancer and underwent months of chemotherapy, radiation, and the removal of my left kidney. In the years that followed, I developed deep dissociative patterns and sought ways to live outside of my body rather than within it.
As I moved through my teen years, this disconnection showed up in my relationships and choices. Being in my body felt unsafe and limiting, and I often reached for ways to avoid it.
A dear family friend, my Auntie Autumn - noticed these patterns and invited me into her backyard massage practice. She had studied in California at Esalen in Big Sur, as well as Heartwood Institute. Autumn introduced me to cranial sacral therapy and other forms of bodywork when I would see her after school.
Working with her opened a world where I felt welcomed, curious, and called to learn how to offer care in the same way it had been given to me.
In my early twenties, I studied eastern medicine, polarity therapy, massage, herbalism, somatic healing, and trauma-informed care - an ongoing and ever-evolving path. I moved to Maui from Santa Cruz, California where I was born and raised.
I came to Maui to learn lomilomi and to understand the land, plants, culture, and traditional healing practices. What began as a month-long immersion with my Kumu grew into years of commitment and shaped the path that brought me here today.
I am so thankful to weave what I’ve learned from an abundance of teachers and mentors into the practice I share with you when you lay on the table.
My intention is to invite deeper sensory awareness and presence in the in-between moments of life. I believe the body holds immense wisdom, and that our pain and experiences can guide the path forward without limiting the movement, connection, and wholeness we seek.
I currently offer my practice to you in a small cottage - upcountry Maui.
May our time together provide the space for you to slow down, reconnect, and come back to yourself.
Perinatal care
My practice has grown from a foundation of various massage therapy modalities and now bridges into supporting birth and postpartum care as well.
I currently assist a midwife on island and I am learning traditional midwifery, while continuing to strengthen my care and advocacy as a doula.
My continued education has been through DONA International, and I hold certifications in NRP, CPR, and BLS.
Learning about my mama’s many years of grief and trauma surrounding her own journey into motherhood has deeply shaped my path. Her story remains at the root of why I aspire to provide care that centers advocacy, safety, nourishment, and grounded presence.
Our society moves quickly and often leans away from vulnerability rather than toward it. Birth is one of the most transformative experiences the body and mind will go through, and having steady, compassionate support throughout that process - no matter what unfolds - is both deeply needed and a true honor to be a part of.
I’m so thankful to support families on island as a doula and midwifery assistant to Prana Midwifery.
